ARDUOUS COACH TRAVELLING.
A VEHICLE OVERTURNED. (Fkom Our Own Correspondent.) CHRISTCHURCH, October 18.
A nor'-west gale was responsible for a coach accident at Otira yesterday, one of the coaches being overturned. There were two passengers, but both were thrown clear, and were unhurt. The driver hung on to the reins, and was dragged about 50 yards. He had his arm dislocated. (From Oub Own Correspondent.) GREYMOUTH, October 18. Those persons who made the journey yesterday are not likely to soon forget their experience. The trip was made under conditions decidedly the reverse of pleasant. In point of fact, the drivers declare that the conditions prevailing were the worst they had ever encountered. Right from Cass to the Otira a heavy fall of snow had occurred. Drifts in places were 3ft deep, whilst there was an average covering along the entire roxite of one foot. Through this the horses ploughed their, way with difficulty. The discomfiture of the passengers was increased by a furious gale blowing in the gorge, the passage of which was thus rendered exceedingly difficult, the troubles of the drivers being added to by the heavy fall of snow.
