The population of Southland is increas* ing, and with it the numlbesr of children attending the schools of the district. For the quarter just closed the names of 10,674 children were on the rolls, a record, and the average attendance was 9440, which is not quite- up to the returns for the March quarter, owing to the epddemio of measles and mumps. The number of teachers in the employment of the Education Board at the end of the quarter was 123 males and 210 females.
