SECOND DIVISION WAGES. INCREASE oFiIXPENCE PER DAY. (Fbom Oub Own Cobbespondent.) WELLINGTON; October 20. The' wages of the employees in the second division of the railway service are to. he increased by 6d per day. There are a number of instances in which no increase is provided- The increment*, are provided by an amendment of the Government Railways Act, which was introduced by Governor's Message this evening. in the traffic and stores department shunters and crane drivers are to be classified in two grades. The maximum wage for second grade shunters is an increase of 6d on the present rate, and that for the first grade an increase of Is per day. Crane drivers in the first grade will re-. ceive an increase of 6d, and those in the second grade will receive the same rate. The increase of 6d per day is almost general in the locomotive class. The following are to receive the increase of 6d per day, or more, in the cases specified. Sub-class 1: Leading tradesmen, leading, fitters, turners, boilermakers, springmakers, blacksmiths, carpenters, patternmakers, painters, moulders, and copper* smiths (both grades), other leading hands. Sub-class 2: Fitters, turners, boilermakers, springmakers, blacksmiths,. carpenters, patternmakers, painters, moulders, coppersmiths, tinsmiths, trimmers, and sailmakers (both grades), boilermakers marking off new boiler work, jitters marking off new work, blacksmiths engaged on new engine work, angle iron smiths, steel moulders. Sub-class 4: Iron-working machinists (both grades). Sub-class 5: Strikers, holdcTS-up, fitters, and machinists (both grades), subclass f urnaeemen, and helpers (both grades). ... Sub-class 7: Labourers (leading). Sub-class 8: Engine-drivers, night foremen of cleaners (Is per day in first grade, 6d per day in second), firemen (both grades), washout men, cranedrivevs, shop enginemen, and gasmen (both grades). Sub-claes 9: Train examiners and lifters (second grade only), watchmen (3s per week). The. increases in the maintenance'division are provided for in the following: Sub-class 1: Leading tradesmen, leading masons and bricklayers. 'Sub-class 2: Leading blacksmiths, fitters, and carpenters. Sub-class 3: Leading painters and plumbers. Sub-class 4: Tradesmen, masons, and bricklayers. Sub-class 5: Fitters, blacksmiths, carpenters, painters, and plumbers. Sub-class 7: Bridgeinen. Sub-class &•. Donkey-engine drivers, cranedrivers, and shop engine men. S'tio-class .9; Special hands, strikers.
