FIRES.
HOKITIKA, October 17. Shortly before 6 o'clock this evening an outbreak of fire occurred at Keller's Hotel, and damage to the interior of the building resulted to the extent of about £2OO. A southerly gale was blowing at the time, and but for the prompt arrival of the fire brigade a disastrous conflagration would have resulted. The loss is covered by insurance. FEILDING, October 19. A large store and dwelling at Cheltenham, occupied by Redstone and Kerslake, was completely destroyed by fire at 6.30 this morning. The place wias also used as a post office and telephone exchange. The mails were destroyed. The insurances are not available. ■ GTSBORNE, October 21. An unoccupied eeven-roomed house, owned by Mr J Farrile. was destroyed by fire this morning; Insurance: £SOO in the National office. The owner intended moving in to-day.
