WELLINGTON WING WHISPERS

By Petee Pah.

• October 14. Dear Pasquin,—The syndicate which intends adding another picture-house to Wellington's already swollen list has accepted the tender of Howie' and Matthews, at £6733, for the erection of the building. The Adelphi, as the house will be known, is to be erected on a section a few yards south of the Evening Post Building, in Willis street. It will not face the street proper, entrance being gained by a 25ft corridor through Hume's buildings. The whole of the circle will be,of reinforced concrete, arid, there will not be any supporting pillars. The whole building will have many improvements not hitherto introduced into any picture theatre in the Dominion. There will be seating accommodation for 1000. It is expected the Adelphi will be ready for opening early in the new year. "Our Miss Gibbs" opened at the Opera House on Wednesday to a packed house. It is without doubt the best musical comedy staged here by J. C Williamson, Ltd., for many moons past. Miss Blanche Bevan, Mr Bertie Wright, Mr Holland, and Mr Higginson all have capital parts. The season promises to be a great success, for the booking is exceptionally heavy. Frank Hutchens, the talented pianist, gave two recitals in the Town Hall this week, but they were not supported in the manner they undoubtedly were entitled to. A mistake, however, was made in holding one of the recitals on the. same night as the opening night of "Our Miss Gibbs." Next Friday the Royal Choral Society is to give Cowen's oratorio "Ruth." Mr Sydney Butler, a recent arrival from Glasgow, will sing the tenor solos, and Mrs Gower-Burns, of Christchurch, will take the soprano solos. The vaudeville house and our six picture theatres are all doing excellently, thank you ■■;:..
