BOWLING.

Secretaries are requested to forward particulars of games played and of forthcoming matches.

The Mornington Bowling Green was opened on Saturday afternoon by Mr J. P. Simon, tho president, who in a few introductory remarks referred to the excellent fh'ancial position of the club. He also mentioned that the beautiful flag flying at the. gate had been presented to them by Mr Thomson, a member of the club, who wa&. at present on a holiday trip to the Home Country. Mr Simon then welcomed back to the green Mr W. Davidson, an ex-presi-went, who has only returned from a trip to England last Tuesday. Bowlers were then invited to a gajne on ( a first-class green Miss Simon delivered the .first bowl, whioh was a toucher. Although the day was wintry, there was a good turn-out of both bowlers and ladies—in all about 250 people being present. The Mornington orchestra, under the baton of Mr J. Thomson, was in attendance, and rendered some nice selections. Boisterous weather marked the opening, of the season at Green, Island, and, with counter-attractions, probably accounted for the small attendance of visitors and members. A heavy sleet shower delayed a start being made, with the result that only sevea. or eight heads were played,. the timehoncured game, President v. Vice-president, ending in a win for the President. The President of the club _ (Mr A.,Young\ m>.de a short but appropriate, speech, and ot-n-. eluded by calling on Mrs Young to roll the first bowl, which she did by emulating the good play of her husband and making a toucher. The green - was in good order, and promises well for high-class play c or the season. The tennis players also hac a game, but the high wind 'was rather against them. However, everybody seemed so make the best of it. and enjoyed .themselves thoroughly. Welcome afternoon tea was served by the ladies. The folknviiifT are the scores: — -••-.■■■ P. V.P. The annual meeting of the Northern Bowling Association was held to-night, Mr J. S. Keith (president being in the chair. In moving the adoption of the report and balance sheet the Chairman' expressed tho wish . that when the association celebrated its twenty first anniversary there would bo a united flag for the whole of the Dominion, or, at any rate, for the whole of the associations of the North Island. The committee had journeyed to Christchurch a few weeks ago in connection with the suggested amalgamation between the Northern Association and the New Zealand Association. The result was shown in the report. It would be unwise for him to criticise at this stage, and he would leave it as it was in the report. The report and balance sheet were adopted. The election of officers resulted as follows :—President, Mr J. S. Keith; vicepresident, Mr Maurice Casey (Auckland); hon. auditor, Mr H. F. Allen; secretary and treasurer, Mr J. J. Roberts. The 1912 tournament was fixed to open on Monday, January 8, in Wellington. The president, secretary, and Mr firunskill were appointed a sub-committee to draw up the tournament programme.
