WISTLAND RAILWAYS.
MEETING ATEOS3. HOKITIKA,, October 13. A largely-attended public meeting convened by the South WestL.id Railway League was held at Rces to-night, when the following resolutions were carried: " That this meeting desires to respectfully urge upon the Government the necessity of authorising the extension of the West Coast railway from the present terminus at Ross to Waitahi, as it is urgently required in the interests of settlement, the extension of timber industry, and the development of the resources of this part of the Dominion." " That the member for the district be requested to strongly represent to the Government the immediate necessity there exists to at once take in hand the survey and construction of the route of the West Coast southern railway to Okarito, and : that the detailed plans for the construction of the line from Ross to Waitahi be i>t once put in hand." . "That the league be requested to ask the support of the Westland and Canterbury Chambers of Commerce to urge the speedy extension of the railway to South Westland, and supply the necessary data ehc-wing the industrial and commercial benefits to be derived by the Dominion from the construction of the line, which ■will tap timber oountry and conduce to increased settlement and the establishment of lucrative industries."
