KAIHIKU.
October 16.—Since last writing there has not been much change in the weather. It has been dry, with cold winds, which have checked growth. Since then we have had some good showers of rain, which have freshened things up a bit, and now. we want some heat and sunshine to bring on the crops. Farm Work.—All work on the farm is well forward, Crops are all sown, and the teams are now busy preparing the ground for grass and turnips. The wintersown crop is covering the ground now, and' a good yield is pretty well assured. Lambing.—Lambing is general amongst the flocks, and the.weather has been favourable so far. The percentage should this year be abovte the average, as feed has also been plentiful. School.—The annual school examination was hold on September 18, and I understand the children acquitted, themselves creditably, and all passed, which should be very gratifying to their teacher, Miss Hammond. Since then the school has bean closed for a week for spring holidays. Sale of Work.—At a meeting of ladies it was decided to hold the sale of work during the first week of November. Stallholders were appointed, and other arrangements attended to.
