Advice has been received by the Otago Hospital and Charitable Aid Board from the Hon.' D. Buddo (Minister of Public Health) to the effect that he has approved of the board's decision to erect a cottage hospital at Tapanui, with an infectious diseases ward in connection therewith. The plans of the proposed) building have also been approved by the' Minister, and it is understood that tenders for the erection of the hospital will be called for by the board immediately. The police have received word to the effect that a young man named Robert Clyde was killed about a mile from his parents' residence at Omimi on the 3nd. He was driving home with a load of firewood at about midday when he fell off the dray, and ono of the wheels passed over his head. Dr Tizard, of SeacMff, was called in, but found that the unfortunate young man was quite dead. An inquest will be held on Thursday. • Some interesting figures bearing on the tone of the Otago University were quoteej by Mr W. S. Fitzgerald to the Dunedin Presbytery yesterday while he was making appeal on behalf of St. Margaret's College. Thos*> of them, he said, who> had read the last report of the Otago University Student Christian Union would be highly gratified to see the progress that that union was making, and to see the spirit that evidently pervaded the University. The last report stated that 180 of the students were members of the Christian Union —(" Hear, hear, and applause"), and that 131 of these were •engaged in the weekly study of the Word of God.—(" Hoar, hear.") Another section was engaged in th© study of missions, and amongst the students there were 17 candidates for mission work. He mentioned this, fok> said, because St. Margaret's College was already interested in this Christian work, and there were meeting triers every week four Bible study circles, composed of-residents and non-residents.
