rUEDONriN SOCIETY **F OTau<\ The forty-ninth annual report, of the Caledonian Soceity. of Otago states that the profit and loss account for the year shows an increase of £37 14s 4d only, but the following assets, have been substantially written -down;. —Grand stand and buildings, by £6O 18s 6d; fences, by £2B 0s 9d; plant, bv £ll 12s 3d turnstiles, by £lo;—total, £llO lis 6d. In addition to the foregoing the directors were reluctantly compelled to strike off a number of members whose subscriptions were considerably in' arrear. When all these things are taken into account, the headway, made by the society must be considered satisfactory from a financial standpoint. During the year the grounds have been very much improved; the railway embankment has now been completed," and presents a very fine appearance. This portion of the ground used to be very damp, being low-lying, but it has now been raised and thoroughly drained, the directors having made an arrangement with the Railway Department at a cost of £24 12s 6d to extend the up-to-date drain right to the Anderson's Bay road_ boundary. The receipts in connection with the annual gathering were less by £2 18s 3d than the expenditure. The weather was fine throughout, and the sports good; but for an expenditure of £320 in prize money it is regrettable that these gatherings do not meet with more favourable support from the general public. In accordance with the recommendation of a Special Committee set up to ascertain what steps should be taken to popularise the society, a sports meeting was held on the afternoon of Saturday. March 18, and proved one of the best of the kind ever held in Dunedin; but here, again, the response by the public was so unsatisfaotorv that the society has had to bear a loss of £l7 9s in connection with the meeting. During the year death has again pressed upon the ranks of the society. Mr John H. Chaprnan, at one time a most energetic director, passed away in January last. Mr O. M. Branson died in February; and a further loss has recently been sustained by the passing away of a past president and life director, in the person of Mr J. B. Thomson. In accordance with the arrangement made at the last general meeting, Mr William Reid carried out the duties of secretary until_ after the annual gathering, with the assistance of Mr T. H. Reid; and the latter gentleman was, in January laet, appointed to hold the office pro tem. The assets of the society, which is incorporated as a company, are now set down at £7963 9s 7d.
For all complaints of the Threat, Lungs, or Bronchial Tubes TUSSIOURA is the sovereign remedy.
