WAIPAHI.

October s.—Fine spring weather rules, though for a few days gales and rough rain and sleet squalls swept the country. Still, little harm has been done, and growth is' general, both in ' plants and stock. Angling.—The fishing season has begun, and local fishermen axe making the most of the good timie before the weed spoils the river. Some nice baskets of fish have been taken, and the scent of fried trout loads the morning breeze. Sunday School.—The annual Sunday school gathering was held on September 27. when a capital audience of parents and friends assembled in the hall. The Rev.\ S. Gaston presided, and read apologies for several friends who had been unable to accept the invitation to speak to the children; A pleasing programme of hymns and recitations of Scripture was carried out by the children, and short addresses were given by the chairman (Mr W. Taylor), and Captain Watkins, of the Salvation- Army, Tapanui. After the presentation of prizes to the scholars, the Chairman asked Mr Taylor to come forward and. in the name of paren'i, teachers, and children, presented him with a number of books in recognition of his 30 years' service in Waipahi as teacher and suDerin? tendent of the Sunday school. In replying, Mr Taylor feelingly thanked the givers for the present. Refreshments, kindly provided by the ladies, were handed round, and the gathering broke up about 10.5*1. after Mr Campbell, as secretary, and Mr Burn, on behalf of the teachers, had thanked all for the support given finan-cia-ltv. and in other ways, to the Sunday school.
