MANSLAUGHTER CHARGE
TWO YEARS' IMPRISONMENT. SYDNEY, September 28. Thomas Riley, who was convicted of the manslaughter of his brother at Kurri Kurri, was sentenced to two years' imprisonment. The brothers had a drunken squabble on June 24. They left town on the night in question about 7 o'clock, and were quarrelling going along the ..road. The disturb, anoe caused the sons of neighbours to go over to the hut. Tom, it is alleged, struck Barney with" a fork, which he picked up off a table, and Barney retaliated by knocking his brother down. A neighbour then induced Barney to leave the hut under pretence of looking at the horse he had just ridden home. Tom got up and made a rush to his room, and it is alleged threatened to do for his brother. A woman who was present unsuccessfully attempted to disuade him. Getting possession of his revolver he went towards the door of the hut, to which Barney in the right, breast, deflecting off fired, one with fatal results. It struck Basney in the right breast, deflecting off one of his ribs, and penetrating his lung.
