The Anglican Bishop of Waiapu reports a large increase .in the number of English people oonfirmed. Since the last meeting of the Synod 145 males and) 257 females amongst the English, and 38 males and 54 females amongst the Maoris, have received the rite. A large percentage of the candidates were adults, and the fruit of the recent mission. A by-law dealing with expectoration on footpaths, drafted by the town clerk, has been adopted by the Napier Borough Council. Offenders will be liable to a fine not exceeding £s.'
