TRINITY COLLEGE OF MUSIC.

The annual concert ahd presentation of dipomas, medals, and prizes in connection with the Trinity College of Music examinations took place on the 15th in Knox Church Sunday School Hall. The Rev. Professor Hewitsota presided, and there was a very large attendance of friends and relatives of the candidates. Professor Hewitson said that four examinations had been held during the year — three theoretical and one practical. The total number of candidates for the year was 367, as against 314 for the year before, which was an increase of 53. Mr Chas. Sehilsky had been examiner last year, and would be examiner again this year, and the examination would bo held in Knox Church Sunday School Hall as before, about the beginning of November. There were 204 candidates to be examined then, which was 29 more than previously. The winner of the Islington Medal was Miss Elsie Macdougall, who had also won the National prize of £5. havirier passed senior practical and theoretical with honours obtaining' over 85 marks in the same year. This young lady was not. 18 years of age. She had (also won the Dresden Piano Company's gold medal for highest marks m senior practioal, and Messrs Chas. Begg and Company's gold medal for highest marks in senior theoretical. Miss Mary Johnsojn, intermediate candidate, had won the College Exhibition prize of six guineas for the practical examination, and also the local committee's gold medal for highest marks in the intermediate examination. Of the eight candidates who had sat for tho higher practical examination, four had gained tho associate diploma, these being 'Misses Gladys Stcjneham, Eva Armstrong', who had since left for New Plymouth, Marie Pryde, and Ethel Jolly. Miss Stonebam, e previous Plunket medallist, bore the highest percentage of marks, and, therefore, gained the Londoia Organ and Piano Company'3 gold medal. Misses Nenetta Ridley and Gertrude Pitts have won the diploma of licentiate. It was _ understood that Mr Sehilsky, the examiner, would give a xviolin recital in November, further particulars of which would be notified later on. _ The committee awarded, an. exhibition of nine guineas each year to \he candidate gailning the highest marks in senior honours, aSnd it was the wish of the committee that the winner of the exhibition should he prepared for an advanced examination by the college. The concert programme was then proceeded with, the performers being Misses Ruby North, Edith Harris, Lissa Howes, Jean Baird, Madge Reekie, Bertha Baker, Ethel Jolly, May Johnson, Florence Pacey, Elsie Macdougall, Gladys Stojueham, and Marie Pryde. ' Miss Baird gave a violin solo, and Miss Pacey a charming rendering of the song, "Se Saran Rose." The remainder of the items were pianoforte solos. The presentation of diplomas, medals, etc., was then made by the Rev. Professor Hewitson. the following being the list of those takibg honours:— , Practical Examination. Bertha Baiter (senior) 2. !
