THE PRICE OF BEEF.
When useful beef can bo purchased in the Homebush Market, Sydney, at 14s to 16s. per 1001 b, there ought to be a margin if the refrigerator was got to work. The following is the latest report to hand of the Homebush sales:
2137 head were yarded, and included one lot of Queenslanders. Taken all round, the quality showed great improvement on that cf last day. There was certainly plenty of plain and rough cattle, but good to prime trade bullocks and steers were very well represented. There were also several lots of extra prime, including some heavy The supply proved in excess of requirements, and tho market opened dull at a fall of 5s to 10s per head. As sales progressed the fall became very
pronounced, and competition was extremely dull. Store buyers bought fairly freely, and helped the market a little. Prime light weight beef sold at in the vicinity of 19s, prime heavy beef 17s to 18s, useful ,beef_ 14s to 16s per 1001 b. Yards prime medium weight bullocks sold from £8 to £8 10s; odd extra choice heavy beasts, to £ll 2s 6d; yards prime light weights, £6 15s to £7 10s; good quality bullocks and steers, £4 103 to £5 15s; medium sorts, £2 10s to £3 15s; yards prime' cows' and heifers, £4 15s to £5 ss; extra prime, £5 5s to £6; odd choice boasts, to £7.
