WELLINGTON WING WHISPERS

Bx Peter Pak.

May 26. Dear “ Pasquin,”—“ The Whip is still proving a boom at the Opera House, aim but that it is necessary that the effects and machinery must be in Christchurch several days before the opening date there, it could easily see the. season out. As it is, we will bo afforded an opportunity of seeing the company in the 10 i antic costume plav. “Henri of Nay&mq The success of “ TJi© Whip ” has been phenomenal, the theatre being packed at every performance. Surely this must be an effective answer to the statement that it does not pay to bring the “ big ” plays to the Dominion. Mr Claude Haigh has gone north to pave the way for the “ Scarlet Troubadours. ' The “Trout's” arrive here next Wednesday, and open in Napier on Friday, then going on to Gisborne. Mr Ben Fuller returned from Auckland yesterday, where he has been consulting John, sen., cm matters of import. The plans for the firm’s new theatre, in Courtenay place, were before the Building' Committee of the City Council this week, so it should be a case of “ now we shan t fc© long ” in the erection of the building. It is on the cards that there will be several changes in the front-of-hous© staffs of some of Fuller’s theatres, which will involve transfers.

The City Council has set up a committee to. report on the best possible way of effecting improvements in the acoustic propertie's of "the Town Hall and Concert Chamber.

The " continuous " picture show, run by MacMahcii and Donnelly, at the New Theatre, has quite caught on, and the success of the venture seems assured. Mr Harold Carr, of the Royal Hawaiians Concert Party, was here at the beginning of the wook, but went south again to meet tii2 company in Christchurch. He returns to-morrow to fix arrangements for a season irr the Town Hall, commencing on Saturday week. Mr Carr is an old Wellington ian, and his relatives reside here. ' The English Pierrots " commenced their two months' season at the Coronation Theatre, in the Exhibition Buildings, and at once " made good." The combination is a clever one, and if it can maintain its programmes at the standard of the opening one, it will have a successful run.
