MANSLAUGHTER.
FOUR YEARS' IMPRISONMENT. ' J AUCKLAND, May 27. \ At the Supreme Court William Osborne, i a seaman, was charged with manslaughter j arising out of an assault committed on a . woman, Mary Gilchrist, with whom he : had been living, and in respect of which _i he had served three months' imprison- 3 ment, the woman having died subse- ! quently to the hearing of the case in the j lower court. Accused sought to_ show j that the woman died from major injuries j sustained while he was in prison. The jury returned a verdict of guilty, and j accused was sentenced to four years' hard I labour.
