PROHIBITION CAMPAIGN.
A SURPRISE FORETOLD. (From Our Own Correspondent.) CHRISTCHURCH, May 10. Mr C. 11. Pcole, MP. for Auckland West, arrived this morning to take part in the national prohibition campaign. He said that this year's national prohibition campaign was developing rapidly, and nothing but what was encouraging had been experienced by those associated: in platform or organisation works. All the indications were in the direction of a successful campaign and the quick dismissal of the liquor business from the Dominion. The people had their minds made up. On being asked if he meant that national prohibition would be carried at the poll this year, Mr Poole replied: "The national prohibition vote will be no doubt a surprise to many people, and it seems to me quite possible for the larger reform to come into operation after the taking of this poll. The general advance has been sounded. Local option will have a big say at the poll as well as the national prohibition isstie."
Referring to politics generally, Mr Poole said that whatever the future of the Dpminion was to be, its control must remain In the hands of the Progressives, and, though it was a problem, what the next general election would reveal, there was no Inclination on the part of the coxttitry to revert to any conservative type of administration, no matter what name such a party might call itself.
