CITY MISSION.
At the monthly meeting of the committee of the Duned'in City Mission on the 4th, there were present—Mesrs G. M. Thomson, M.P. (president), J. A. D. Adams, W. E. Sessions, John Barnes, P. L. Clark, E. Rosevear (hon. treasurer), and D. Wright. The following donations, etc., were reported:—Friends of the missionary, £2O; Mr Ings. £1; Mrs 8., 10s; Mr W., 21s; Mr 8., £2 2s; Mr A., 21s; Mr A., 20s; Mr M., £1; Mr M., £4; Lady Friend, £3; Albany street service, £1 3s 6d; attendance cards, etc., 15s 6d; Mr M., 10s; Lady Sympathiser, £25; for poor fund, £l.
After a report by the Chairman concerning the annual meeting, the following appointments were made: —President, Mr G. M. Thomson, M.P.; vice-presidents, Mr John Barnes and Mr P. L. Clark; hon. treasurer, Mr Rosevear. The usual payments were passed for payment. On the motion of the president, and unanimously agreed too, the following votes of thanks were recorded: —(1) To Mr David Leslie for auditing annual cash statement; (2) to Dr R. V. Fulton for gratuitous and cheerful services to the poor; (3) to the manager of the Bible Depot for the use of the board room for monthly meetings; (4) to the press for giving publicity .to monthly reports, etc.; (5) to head masters and teachers for their presence and help in the Bible-reading classes; (6) to all those who assisted in making the annual meeting a distinct success.
Mr Wright, in his monthly statement, reported that 1000 boys and girls had been enrolled in the five schools. The classes had crowded all the rooms, and as many as 224, 230, 236, and 258 had attended at Arthur Street and Albany Street respectively. Delightful and instructive addresses had been given to the scholars by Mr Bailey (from India) and Mr Oliver Burgess (from China) In every school the teachers were giving sympathetic cooperation. The usual visits to the old and infirm, both in the city and suburbs, had been made. The Band of Hope at Pelichet Bay oontinaed to prosper, and was very largely attended by young people and their friends. The Sunday evening service in Albany Street School was largely attended, and gave much encouragement. Excellent help had lately been given by Mr Hughes, of the Y.M.C.A., and the Christian Endeavoure.rs from North-East Valley. First Church, and the Tabernacle. It had been the privilog-e of the missionary to assist in different churches and Sunday schools on Sundays and week days. The circulation of literatuture went on steadily all the year round.
