FARMERS' UNION.
—Milton Branch.— At a meeting of the Milton branch of the New Zealand Farmers' Union, the following resolutions were passed :-- " That this branch supports the Opuriake branch in the action it is taking to have land l taxed on the same basis as capital invested in other industries, and with the same exemptions, as it appears that at the present time . land is taxed from . six to 20 times as much as capital otherwise invested." _ " "That this branch supports the Clinton branch in its request re having notice boards at railway stations for the convenience of farm labourers travelling by rail." " That this banch supports the Middlemarch branch in opposing the desired increase of wages for engine-drivers and shearers." Although no formal resolution was passed, the meeting agreed that it was not desirable that any action should be taken in the direction indicated by the Clydesvalo branch —viz., to obtain for producers a return for sack's more oommensuate with the cost price. It was considered that the amount allowed 1 for sacks was a very fair amount, and one with which most- farmers were satisfied. Another resolution had reference to a recent rise in the rat© of wages paid to threshing mill hands in the district, which rise had been agreed' upon between tha mill . owners- and the men without consulting the farmers. It was resolved that, while the meeting did not object to the increase, it did not approve of the principle of the mill owners agreeing to an increase without consulting the farmers.
