STORMS IN AUSTRALIA

SYDNEY, March 14. There have been cyclonic storms and torrential rain. In several country towns many of the houses were unroofed. Much I damage was done to property and crops by the wind and floods. HOBART, March 14. Heavy rain and floods continue. The Huon River is "in high flood, and the lowlying parts of the town are inundated. Some of the residents have vacated their houses. A boy at Cordwell was drowned. BRISBANE. March 18. During the cyclone at Cairns a cottage was lifted off the blocks and safely deposited a few yards away. A great number of houses were badly damaged, and the cargo sheds at the wharves collapsed. The full force of the storm was felt at Nelson and Mulgrave, where houses collapsed and were unroofed, as well as other extensive damage. Twelve inches of rain fell in 36 hours. March IP. A wire from Port Douglas states that a terrific cyclone was experienced on Thursday. Practically every building in the town was levelled. There were two fatalities, and 100 people are homeless. The message asks that relief be sent to the township. Mossman was also devastated. The telegraphic service is disorganised, and the details are meagre. March 20. Two men were killed by falling houses during the Port Douglas cyclone, one of

them while assisting his mother to escape. The wrecked buildings include the Roman and Anglican churches, the Government bond, and three public halls.
