BURGLARY AT GREYMOUTH.
JEWELLER'S SHOP ENTERED. GREYMOUTH, September 24. During last night the premises of Mr H. W. Lloyd, Mawhera quay, were burglariously entered, the steel bar protecting the door being cut through. The contents of the window were removed. The amount of booty is roughly estimated at £3OO. The perpetrators of the robbery gained admittance by cutting through and removing an iron bar over the doorway, which was comparatively well lighted. The booty they secured is valued at about £SOO. and included 12 "Granny" chains. 12 to 15. ? ribbon. chains, 18 gold necklets, two dozen silver watches, 18 gold bangles, sovereign cases, match boxes, gold medals, and brooches. Many surmises have been made, and it is significantly pointed out that within the last few weeks an attempted burglary occurred at Nelson, whilst at Westport a jeweller suffered to the extent of £l6O. Can this be regarded as evidence that a gang is operating? The surmise is certainly a most interesting one. but, of course, it is impossible at present to remove it from the realm of uncertainty.
