DUNEDIN D.L.F. LITERARY AND DEBATING CLUB.

Motto: "Union is Strength."

The usual weekly meeting of the above club was held in the clubrcom on Tuesday evening, September 13, when Dot and the following members and visitors were present:—Nightingale, Lenoro, Ogilvy, Adelinn, Lady Esler, Leola, Leola's Siw ter. Giulia, Hiawatha, Heather Laseie,' Midgie, Texma Jack. Ned Devine, Happy Waor. Cornish, Fiddler, and Francis-/ Durti'.fc the early part of the evening some of the members indulged in a gdhie of cards, wiiilet others enjoyed a chat. Later on Cornish took the chair, and the fol« loving contributed' humorous readin£«i

which were listened to with much interest I end greatlv enjoved:—Jeola. "Mr Mosly's Dancing Lesson"; Giulia. "Mr and Mrs MacPherson's Wrangle About Cookery"; and Lady Esler, "He Tried to Tell His Wife"—a humorous reading humorously -read 'by a humorous girl—what more -s required to raise a smile? Midgie obliged and amused us with a very humorous recitation. Midgie's skill in the art of reciting is well known, and it does not need my unskilled pen to sing her praises. Cornish, on behalf of the club, extended a hearty welcome to the visitors present. Thev were Lenore, an old club member and • well-known worker in the days when the ] club was in its infancy (we were all pleased : to 6ee Lenore in our midst once more, but regret she is paying only a short vieit to town); Midgie, a well-known, and most popular member of the Invercargill Club, of which she creditably filled the office of \ secretary for a considerable time (one has only to read the D.L.F. Page to know what Midgie does for her club in general); Fiddler, who promises to attend the meetings regularly; and Adelina. Cornish referred to an omission—that of electing a secretary, and called for a volunteer to write the reoort, and as I have to write from memory I hope mistakes will be excused. We regret very much that our old patron Harry is laid up with inflammation of the lungs, and send him our sympathy and best wishes for a 6peedy reoovery Syllabuß for next four weeks: — September 20.—.
