By a peculiar mistake, certainly no* often made, the Treasury paid £lO2l too . much to the Palmenston North Hospital Board during the past month. An appli- ; cation for the board's subsidy was made. by tho secretary on the old form. A feir days later new forms were received, and on the" advice of the Inspector of -Hospitals it was decided to make the application on the new forms also. The result was that the Treasury got a mixed; and paid out sums from 'both application*. A deputation on University matter*. headed by Sir Samuel Way, waited on th« Premier of South Australia (the Hon. J. Verran> on September 1, and received an unexpected rebuff. The deputation was not introduced by a member of the Hoa», and though Sir Samuel urged that ss Chancellor of the University he had frequently headed deputations in a similar manner, the Premier wae firm, and would not listen until the Attorney-general was found, and the deputation had been formally introduced. Mr Verran's position was that otherwise the members representing the district would have been flouted.
