His stock prove him to be absolutely the best breeding Horse in the Dominion, as he. is the sire of Nelly Gray, champion mare of Southland for years; Daisy Bell, champion mare of Oaraa.ru and Dunedin shows; Queen Agg, champion mare of tha North Island; ~H> Anarima Fancy, and scores of others -m fact, almost"; all the prize-winning-mimals throughout the South Island last year were either by Shepherd Lad or out of mares got by Shepherd Lad. Shepherd Lad's sire, Herd Laddie (imp.), from "Scotland to Victoria, and thence to New Zealand, is one of the best breeding horses ever imported. Shepherd Lad's dam, Maggie M'Cormick, was a champion showyard mare, being beaten only by her daughter, Queen, a- half-sister to Shepherd -Lad. Maggie M'Cormick and Queen were sold to the late Mr Walter, of Victoria, and after several . times winning the. tiiajnpionship of Victoria, was generally admitted to be the be3t stamp of a Clydesdale mare seen south of tha line. At the late Mr Walter's dispersal sal© on March 23, 1904, Maggie M'Cormick, the dam of Shepherd Lad, then in her sixteenth year, brought 250 gs. and her yearling filly 230 gs. Shepherd Lad is a very sure foal-getter, and he again proved very successful with his nuares last season. He will serve a limited number of mares only; so early application is necessary (as last season he had to refuse a number of mares).
