NAVY LEAGUE: OTAGO DIS TRICT.
The monthly meeting of the above vyas held on Friday afternoon at the Education Board office, and attended by Messrs J. A, Johnstone (in the chair), Colin Macandrcw. W. Sibbald, P. G. Prydo, G. K. Ritchie, W. J. Morrell, ami W. A. Moore. The Secrsavy reported that since March 31 the sum of £IBO 2s had been collected. —A cheque for £lO was sent to the Free Library on account of naval works for the reference library.—Lantern and slides have been used by the Palmerston and Miller’s Flat Schools and Mr James Allen, M.P., gave a lantern lecture on behalf of the league at the Lawrence District High School. --The secretary visited and addressed the upper standards of the Mornington, Musselburgh and Kaikorai Schools, and gave lantern lectures at the Normal, Green. Island, George Street, and Maori Hill Schools. —The Waitaki Boys’ High School, with a membership of over 200, has decided to affiliate with the Otago branch. This school has the reputation of having a very active and intelligently interested branch in all that concerns the navy.—The Lawrence District High School has also formed a branch with a membership of 60. It was decided to thank Mr C. W.Palmer, of Wellington, for, and to accept his offer to approach on behalf of the Otago branch his Excellency Lord Islington with a view to his accepting the office of patron of the Navy League throughout the Dominion. The sub-committee drew up a list of some 300 books to be given as prizes in the next school essay examinations.
