P ENINSULA ROAD BOARD.

The monthly meeting of the Peninsula Road Board was held on the 4-th, and was attended by Messrs Riddell, Garr, Gourley, Aitken, Black, and Brunton. The following officers were elected for the ensuing year:—Chairman, Mr John Riddell; treasurer, Mr James Garr. The members of the board standing .in silence, it was resolved, on the motion of the —“ That the board desires to place on record its deep sorrow at the death of our beloved King Edward VII, and its heartfelt sympathy with her Majesty Queen Alexandra and members of the Royal Family in their great affliction. The members who retire by ballot in 1911 are Messrs Black, Gourley, and Riddell. The clerk was instructed to prepare a statement of all accounts due to the board for presentation at next meeting. The resolution to make a rate of 3d in the pound on all rateable property in the district payable on June 6, 1910, was confirmed. It was also resolved that ten per cent, be charged on all rates not paid on or before January 20. The Chairman reported that the Portobello Road Board suggested that a portable crusher be obtained, and asked the Peninsula Road Board to co-operate. A letter was read from Mr M‘Curdy,-ex-chairman of the board, stating that he had retired from the board. It was decided to place on the minutes a record of the valuable services rendered to the board by Mr M‘Curdy while in office. It was decided to obtain necessary drain pipes, also that the board invite tenders for 100 yards of metal to be quarried and broken at Reger’s quarry at Sandymount. Mr Townly wrote' re gorse on Camp road. It was decided to instruct the surafoeman to do the work. The clerk was instructed to write to Messrs M'Curdy and Wilkie, and also the. manager of the Camp estate, requesting them to lop all trees bounding their property ; the Presbterian Church trustees to be also written to. Accounts amounting to £l7 12s 8d were passed for payment.
