WELLINGTON WING WHISPERS

By Peter Pan.

I June 10. ! D'aar Pasquipi.—There are three permanent picture houses in this city, but seemingly some people are of the opinion that it can stand another, for it ie announced that a syndicate has been formed here, and that plans are in .preparation for the building of another. The site of the new house is stated as being off Lambton Quay. It is also stated here that a leading Australian theatrical firm has secured a ten years’ lease of a Chirstohurch theatre. Tlho BLlwood Trio and Miss Winnie Nixon are meeting with much success on their tour of the North Island. Arrangements are in hand here to tender the clever . trio a farewell on the 22nd inst. Judging by the names appearing on the committee list the Town Hall should be packed, for , the members lack not enthusiasm. It is said that Miss Ellwood will accompany her brothers to Europe. The boys are to ' study under the same master as Sevcik and Gerardy had. The Marlow Dramatic Company will play the following dates on the West Coast trip: Nelson, June 30 and July 1; Greymouth, July 4, 5 and 6; Hokitika, July 7 ; and 8; Greymouth (return) July 9 and 11; ; Reef ton, July 12 and 13; Westport, July ; 15, 16 and 17; and Blenheim July 21 and , 22. ! Miss Rene Queree, who Iras been, studying under Marshall Hall, in Melbourne, gave a piano recital in the concert chamber of the Town Hall this week. Critics are agreed that Mies Queree has made much advancement in her profession, and is an acquisition to Wellington musical circles. She was assist©'', vocally by Mr Frank | Charlton. | The Hamilton-Maxwell Dramatic Com- j pany, under the management of George 1 Duller, is doing fine, thank you. At the Opera House, “ Woman and Wine ” was the opening bill, and it was replaced on Thursday by “In London Town.” The scenery of the productions is a special feature. { Vaudeville is popular at the Theatre; Royal. The newcomers, an American dancing team, Brown and Wilmot, made their : first appearance last night, and were enthusia.stioaliy received. The lady of the duo has something particularly fetching : , in frocks. The several picture managers nightly , ■ look complacently on the crowds that besiege their houses. In truth, the moving i picture has a great hold on Wellington ians.
