YOUNG WOMAN ASSAULTED. AUCKLAND, May 28. A respectable young married woman from the Bay of Plenty, who is at present on a visit to her parents, was returning from town between 6.30 and 7 last evening. As she passed the Supreme Court grounds, within 100 yards of her parents' house, she was approached by a man, who threw her violently to the ground. A struggle ensued, and the woman managed to free herself. In her flight she met a young girl, who stoo3 by her and helped her to attract the attention of two men who were passing the end of the road. The' latter immediately closed with the man indicated to them as the assailant, and held him until a constable was summoned. Other passers assisted the young woman (who was in a very distressed state) to her parents' home. She was very seriously bruised about the body, there was an abrasion on her forehead, and her clothes were torn. At a late hour last night the young woman was unable to give a collected account of the outrage. The man arrested gave the name of Alexander M'Master. He is tall, well-built, and well-dressed, and about 24 years of age. This morning the woman gave a reporter a clear account of the or """"ence. She stated that she was retur an a e church bazaar, and was ac\ by a man, who rushed at her and knocked her down. He was a powerful man. She is a married woman of about middle age. She made a vigorous defence, and tho struggle lasted 20 minutes. She subsequently identified the man brought to ho-- is her assailant. M'Master appeared in court this morning, charged with assault with intent to commit a crime, and was remanded.
