SENSATION IN MADRID
MADRID, May 24. A sensation has been caused here by the throwing of a bomb at the monument which was erected in Calle Mayor (Madrid) to the memory of the victims of the outrage which took place on King Alfonso's wedding day. The bomb was enclosed in a steel jewel box, and was identical with the one used on the wedding day. The thrower, who was hotly pursued, attempted to commit suicide, but he was arrested. The bomb-thrower is dead. All the initials and marks had been cut out of his linen. It is 'now proved that the bomb burst prematurely. King Alfonso reached Madrid yesterday. The thrower of the bomb has been identified as Taborelli, recently from Argentina. He carried the bomb in a bag, and inquired of a soldier outside the palace if King Alfonso had arrived. His Majesty was then due, but a change of plan had delayed his arrival. May 25. There are indications that when the premature explosion occurred Taborelli was on his way to the railway station, hoping to meet King Alfonso. The public are greatly shocked. Various chemicals and two infernal machines have been discovered in Taborelli's lodgings. Many Anarchists have been arrested, but there is no clue as to any accomplices.
