A COACH ACCIDENT.

THREE HORSES DROWNED. (From Our Own Correspondent.)

INVERCARGILL, May 29.

A coach accident occurred early ol Saturday morning between Slope Point and Waikawa, whereby three of the foul horses attached to the conveyance were drowned. It appears that a coach, driven by Mr H. M'Dowell, and owned by Mr H. Windleborne, was returning with a full load of passengers from a dance afc Slope Point to" Waikawa. It was between 5 and 6 a.m., and all was dark. On entering the ford at Six-mile River the leader became restive, and turned right round, eventually getting into deep water and dragging the team with him. The driver had no chance of getting the animals straightened out and clear of the harness, and three of them became entangled and were drowned. The coach did not get into deep water, although if was pulled round, and one horse, which did not get right into the pool was the only one to escape. The passengers, with one exception, escaped without t wetting. Reinforcements were procured locally, and the coach reached Waikawa several hours behind time. The horsoa were valuable animals, and Mr Windleborne estimates his loss at about £l2O.
