PI GEON SHOOTING.

A YOUTHFUL CHAMPION

WANGANUI, May 28

The pigeon-shooting championship oE New Zealand was decided on the Wanganui Gun Club's ground. There were 24 competitors, and the winner turned up in Donald Allan Eraser, the 16-year-old eon of Mr Duncan Eraser, of Horcrata, Canterbury, who killed 20 birds out of 21. This was the lad's first attempt at a New Zealand championship meeting, and he had to compete against the bast shots in the Dominion. All shot from the same mark (28 yards). It was an unquestionably fine performance, and by far the beet ever recorded by a boy in New Zealand. By his victory he carried off a £25 gold and diamond " medial, a 65 guinea gun presented by the Colonial Ammunition Company, and £35 in cash presented by the club. Messrs Stead. Fraser, sen., Price, a.nd King divided second and third prizes, with 18 kills each. Young Fraser started shooting only about 12 months ago, and his performance is therefore a remarkable one. Last Easter he shot for the Colonial Ammunition Company's cup and got a leg in, killing 40 out of 43 birds. He will shortly visit Dunedin to compete for the first sparrow championship of New Zealand, as he is reported to be an even better shot at sparrows than pigeons.- He should consequently give a good account of himself.
