Up to the end of last year the department would show a net profit of between £6OOO and £7OOO. At present he was anxious to do some more work in connection with Mount Cook, and also to link up the road system of the east and west coasts by a track over the mountains from the Hermitage to the Copland Valley. When that was done he believed it would form the grandest tourist road in the world, and the link required would not be a long one. though somewhat difficult.
