Owing to the policy of the contractors in connection with the Otira tunnel in giving preference to married men, the attendance at the Otira School has increased. There are now over 70 pupils on the roll, and in consequence the school has become so crowded that it was fou»d necessary to add a second room. The WesOind Education BoaTd has received notic* that a recent application to the Education Department for the necessary grant has achieved its purpose, and imme* diate steps will be taken to call for tenders for the work.
