ROWING.
R Arnsfc will leave for Capetown on May 18, with his brother, John Arnst, and Harry Floyd. He explains that he felt compelled to stake the championship in the proposed race with E. Barry, as it was Dlain to him that unless he did so he would not get the race at all. We has made an alteration in the articles sent him by Barry, striking out the' clauses that referred to the Thames Boat Race laws, and substituting the Australian championship rules. After the Zambesi race he will get away from Africa as soon as possible. He expects to visit Canada to row Edward Durnan for £SOO a side and the title, if he still holds it. Later on. he purposes visiting England to row Barry a second match for £SOO a side and the title, on the Thames. Arnst says the match, if it comes off. will be under the recognised championship conditions. New Zealand sportsmon are to 6end quit/? a large sum of money to Africa to back Arnst, and if he wins he is to have a share of the bets. Probably, about £15,000 will be sent to back the champion.
