Dredging Industry on the Offin River.
NEW ZEALAND'S TIMBER SUPPLY At a time when so much attention is directed to the question of conserving the timber supply in various parts of the world, it is interesting to notice that New Zealand still possesses a large area of forestthat may eventually prove suitable for commercial purposes. A report by Mr G. H. F. Rolleston (Trade Commissioner for New Zealand) in a recent issue of the Board of Trade Journal, states that out of the total area for New Zealand of 66,5&9,000 acres, there still remain 17,100,000 acres covered with forest, as compared with 21,197,000 acres 24 years ago. In the Crown and State forests and on other lands there is said to be a total of 33,000,000 superficial feet of available timber. The output of sawn timber in 190 S was 414,000,000 superficial feet, and this is expected to advance to an average of some 500,000,000 feet for the next fifty years.
