JUSTIFIABLE HOMICIDE
SYDNEY, April 28. In the ease of Caroline Buckman, who was charged with the murder of her husband on January 21, the evidence disclosed that the accused had been subjected to much ill-usage, and a verdict of " Justifiable homicide" was returned. Mrs Buekmann, wife of Mr J. J. Buekmann, who had a selection called " Mile and Tile," on the Namoi River, above the. Wallah Lagoon, arrived at Narrabri on January 22 and gave herself into the custody of the police, stating that she had shot her husband dead at 6 o'clock the previous evening, but it was understood that the shot was fired in self-defence. Buekmann and his wife had not been living on friendly terms for same years, and deceased had been twice under medical observation for unsound mind. It appears that they quarrelled on January 21, and Mrs Buekmann rode off on horseback into the bush. Deceased followed, and tried to pull his wife off the horse. She then drew a revolver, and shot him through the heart. Leaving him in the bush, sho returned home and told her family what had happened, and then dressing herself went into town and told the police. There are nine children.
