The Proposed Brighton Railway.
TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —I have read carefully the remarks of the Hon. T. Mackenzie o/t the Brighton social on Friday night. The. hon. gentleman did not find it hard to tickle the ears j of the groundlings by references to bag--1 pipe music, Highland mottoes, and such trifles. Then he wandered on to dairying-, ! fruit culture, and other tqpics. He flattered his hearers with references to ! the • harbour at Brighton, where a. flourishing fishing industry might be established if a j certain rock were removed—and he ought ■ to have said a few fish placed in those fiahj lees waters. By dint of much flattery he | worked upon the feelings of his audience, j and then he escaped with the satisfaction of knowing that there was no,present need i to refer to the proposed railway or make j any promises of support. It' will come in useful as a handy lever at the next general ] election, and no one knows it better than ! he does, and so the evil day is put off by | fooling the people year in and year out.—l am, etc.. Brighton Fool. j A(pril 9.
