SENSATION ON A CHURCH.
AN INSANE VISITOR. AUCKLAND, April 13.
Just as the daily service was about to commence at St. Matthew's Church to-day a lunatic rushed into the church. He raced excitedly down the aisle, and leaped upon the communion table. Seizing the cross, he began to cover it with a parf, when the verger ordered him down. He declared that he was St. Patrick come to life again, and also St. James. After a time he was persuaded to 'eave the chancel, and was subsequently handed over to the police.
It was discovered that he had recentlybeen released from the Christchurch Men--4a.l Hospital. He was examined by two medical men, and afterwards committed hy the magistrate to the mental hospital. He was a respectably-dressed young man about 24 years of age. This is the third instance of a lunaticinvading St. Matthew's Church. The former unfortunates—a man and a woman >-were both taken to the mental hospital.
