LAND SETTLEMENT

LONDON, April, 12,

Some settlers in British Columbia have communicated with Sir J. W. Taverner, Agent-general for Victoria, stating that they desire to emigrate owing to the rigorous nature of the Canadian climate, and asking on what terms Victoria will giant land to be worked co-operatively, and probably held collectively. They estimate that they would number a thousand families. They add that they have no desire to speculate in land, and that economy is the only reason for their cooperation.

Sir J. W. Taverner replied -that the Victorian delegation will probably b 9 returning via Canada, and meanwhile hs is advising his Government of the proposals made by the settlers.
