HOSPITAL BOARD.

MEETING OF goDY. V • The first of the newly-elected Charitable Aid Board (which over the functions of the old Hospif tal and- Charitable Aid Boards, the Bene- | relent Trustees, and the Hospital Trustees) ■ was held in the Empire Buildings on the Ist inst. The following members were present:—Messrs J. H. Walker, W. T. Talboys, J. Loudon. J. J. Clark, D. Larnach, S. S. Myers (Dunedin City and We6fc Barbour), Robert Templeton (Waihemo and Waikouaiti counties, Palmerston I and Hawkesburv Borough), H. M. Ewing (Peninsula Road District, Bay Town Board, St. Kilda and Green, Island Boroughs), W. i Wilkinson and J. H. F. Hamel (Mornington, Roslyn, Maori Hill, and N.E. Valley Boroughs), Walter Blackie (Mosgiel Borough and Taieri County). CHAIRMAN AND SECRETARY. Mr Wilkinson said that he "had very much pleasure in nominating for the posi- ' tion of chairman their late chairman (Mr | Walker). He had done excellent service | during his time in office, and he had a thorough grasp of the business. It would I be a great assistance to have him for chairman, during the ensuing year. j The mot r on was seconded by Mr Larnach, and carried unanimously. Mr T. S. Graham was- appointed secretary' pro tern., to hold office until a peri manent secretary can be appointed, manent secretary can be appointed. The matter of appointing a permanent secretary I was deferred fcr one month. The following committees were set up:— Finance : The chairman, and Messrs Lar--1 nach, Loudon, Clark, Talboys, and Hamel. Works • The chairman, and Messrs Wilkinson,' Ewing, Myers, Larnach, and Clark. ; Hospital: The chairman, and Messrs Loudon, Myers, Wilkinson, Larnach, and r Hamel. __ ■» Benevolent Institution: The chairman, and Messrs Talboys, Ev-ing, Clark, Hamel, and Myers. Sanatorium and Maternity Home: Matter to be dealt with later. Mr Wilkinson was appointed chairman of the Works Committee, Mr Loudon chairman of the Hospital Committee, Mr Walker chairman of .he Finance Committee, Mr Talboys chairman of the Benevolent Institution Committee.

Messrs Walker, Wilkinson, Loudon, and Talboys were appointed a. temporary committer, with power to take outside assistance, to draw up a report for submission to the board dealing with the following matters : —(a) Reorganisation and consolidation of offices and staff, (b) recommendation as to further committees to b© set up, (c) extent and personnel of co-opera-tive members on the various committees, (d) recommendation as to suitable offices, (e) recommendation in re standing orders to govern the business of the board, (f) report. as to consolidation and amendment where necessary, of the by-laws governing the various institutions controlled by the board, (g) recommendation as to ajiy further matters pertaining to the control and administration of the board. The meeting of the Hospital Board was fixed for the fourth Tuesday in each month, at 2.15 p.m. The times of meeting l of the new committees were fixed as follows: —Benevolent Committee, everv Monday afternoon, at 2.15; Hospital Committee, every Friday evening, at 7.30; Finance Committee, every Friday afternoon, at 4.30. GENERAL. The question of the nosition of the employees of the bodies which had been amalgamated came up for discussion, and Mr 0. G. White, solicitor, who was present by request, stated that no action was necessary in this direction. The act provided for those servants whose services were not to be disrjensed with continuing their duties without any interruption, and without the necessity of the confirmation of their appointments The board devoted, some time to the question of adjusting the various banking accounts, and then adjourned.
