The Pall Mall Magazine for March is, not unexpectedly, redolent of the British general election then raging in unprecedented ferocity. The cover is adorned with a caricature of Mr Balfour, and the frontispiece represents Mr Asquith. These caricatures arc by G. R. Eialkett. The first article also deals with the election, and consists of a series of connected photographs showing how the results were recorded in the offico and published by the Pall Mall Gazette. The photographs give a very fair idea of the nature of the work imposed upon the staff of a newspaper by such events. There is an excellent and timely article on Halley's Comet, which will loom largelv as a topic of conversation about the middle of next month. The history of this comet is a scientific romance. It made its appearance when Egypt was young, and Greece was yet inhabited by savages. Yet its scientino history begins with the man whose name it bears, and Sir Isaac Newton In addition to the foregoing, there is the usual liberal assortment of fiction and sketches, not omitting the supplementary budget of 10 original complete short stories. Truly, the Pall Mall is a wonderful sixpence^vorth.
