Also buying rabbits. HIDE SALES. MELBOURNE, March 23. At the hide sales light and medium ' weigths were 3d to -id lower, but other sorts were unchanged. LAND SALE AT PALMERSTON. The Otago Farmers' Co-operative Association of New Zealand report having gold by auction at' their saleyards, Palmerston, on Thursday, 24th inst.., by order of the trustee in the estate of the late J. K. Robertson, t*he farm of 185 acres at present occupied by Mr Kitchen, and within a mile of Palmerston. There was a large gathering of farmers, and capital competition. Bidding commenced at £3 10s, and, after brisk competition, the property fell to the bid of Mr J. Kennsy at £ll 7s 6d per acre. STOCK SALE AT PALMERSTON. The Otago Farmers' Co-operative Association of New Zealand report: —We held our monthly sale of sheep and cattle in our yards. Palmerston,.on Thursday. There was a full muster of farmers from the surrounding district, and buyers _ from Hampden, Oamaru,' Dunedin, Peninsula, and Clutha. Competition for all classes of stock was fairly good, and there was a complete-clearance under the hammer of every lot offered. We yarded 600 sheep and lambs and 30 head of cattle. CLEARING SALE AT LINNBURN STATION. Messrs Stronaeh, Morris, and Co. report having held (in conjunction with Messrs Dalgety and Co.) a sale of surplus stock on account of Mr R. M. Turnbull, Linnburn Station, Central Otago. The day proved rather disagreeable, but in spite of this there was a I»ecord attendance of farmers in the district and others from all parts of ihe South Island. Mr Turnbull had his sheep in tip-top order, but as the yard accommodation was limited for such a large number they were sold by sample. A most satisfactory sale took place. CLEARING SALE~AT MATAKANUI STATION. Messrs Stronach, Morris, and Co. report having held (in conjunction with Mesers ! Dalgety and Co.), on Monday last, the 21« t inst., a sale of stock, implements, and effects, on account of Messrs Laidlaw and Crawford, Matakanui Station. The sale was at the homestead, Matakanui, and ex- , cited unusual interest in the district. It

was anticipated that owing to the wellknown quality of the stock that Mr Laidlaw was known to possess competition would be good, but the result far exceeded the most sanguine expectations of the auctioneers. Mr Laidlaw left nothing to chance, and contributed considerably to the result by bringing out and showing his stock, etc., to the best advantage, the implements being well set out, the horses well groomed and attended to, and the sheep properly drafted and penned. The sale was * attended by farmers and others from North Canterbury, Albury, Timaru, Oa.maru, Dunedin, and Gore.
