LOST DUCO'S CREW.
CLAIMS FOR COMPENSATION". WELLINGTON, March 22. Two of the claims for compenea.tidri brought in the Supreme Court by . the relatives of members of the crew of the steam trawler Duco, which foundered between Wellington , and the Chatham Islands, have been settled out of court, the owners of the vessel, the Wellington/ Harbour Ferries Company (Ltd.), having; agreed to pay a certain sum. A special' jury had been summoned for to-day for the hearing of the claim brought by Ellen Lang Tucker Waddilove and Wlliam Wardrop WaddHove, executrix and! executor respectively of William Waddilove, who was chief officer of the Duco when she was lost. The amount of the claim was £I6OO. It is not stated how much the Ferries Company agreed to pay. The company had; admitted liability under the Workers' Compensation Act, and the maximum amounts payable hndieir thisi act are £SOO. Another claim which was to have been investigated by a special jury, and which has also been settled in a similar way, is that of Elizabeth Jane Menard, widow of Alexander Lairy Menard, chief engineer of the Duco. The claim in this case was also for £1500.There is at least one other claim against the company still to be dealt with.
