A resolution has been passed by a conference of Irish Post Office clerks advocating the fortnightly washing and disinfecting of all mailbags. A Melbourne exchange- states that when the cable steamer Patrol has picked up the original duplicate cable between Victoria and Tasmania, it will be taken to Singapore, where the Eastern Extension Telegraph Company has a cable factory with 400 hands employed. Here, old and worn cables, are practically renewed by being recovered, the copper remaining undeteriorated in nearly every instance.
