BLUESKIN CALEDONIAN SPORTS.

The fifth annual sports meeting of the Blueskin Caledonian Society took place at Waitati on Monday under ideal weather conditions. Most of the events produced good fields, and, thanks to the handicapping of Messrs G. Collie, E. Kemp, and M. Beasley, a large percentage of the events resulted in very close finishes, and there were no protests lodged. The Palmerston. Brass Band (under Conductor Kitchen) enlivened 'the proceedings very agreeably with musical selections, and altogether the meeting was a distinct success. MAIDEN RACE, 150yds. Ten entries. First heat: B Murray 1, W. Harbrow 2. Also competed: M'Queen and Brown. A good finish, a yard separating each of the placed men. Time 18 2-ssec. Second heat: K. M'Lennan 1, Payne 2. Also started: Morris, Matheson, and Robson. Won by 10 yards, other competitors finishing in. a bunch. Time, 17 2-ssee. Final.—K. M'Lennan 1, W. Harbrow 2, B. Murray 3. Won easily, M'Lennan taking the lead half way. and winning by, a dozen lengths. Time, 17 2-ssec. OPEN HANDICAP, 100yds. „ Fourteen entries. First heat: R. Chalmers, 3yds, 1; Wray, 7yds, 2. The field started like one man, but Anderson soon took command, and finished an easy winner, with about 10 yards to spare, the others finishing in a bunch. Time, Usee. - DASH OPEN HANDICAP, 75yds." Also competed: Mong 10yds, Lee 4yds, and Wray 6ydi3. Won by half a yard, the third man beingsix yards away. Time, 23sec. Second heat: E. Dunford, 7yds, 1; S. Robertson, Byds, 2. Also started: C. Anderson 4yds and J. Park 3yds. Dunford just won on the tape by half a yard, the third man being six yards awav. Time, 22 2-ssec. Final.—E. Dunford 1, R. Chalmers 2, S. L. Robertson 3. A. A. Thomson also started. After being called back from a false start, the men got away with the flash of the pistol, and after running an excellently-judged race Dunford passed the field 50 yards from home, and won a great race by half a yard, the others finishing . in a bunch. Time, 28 2-ssec. 440YDS HANDICAP. Five entries. Chalmers, scratch, 1; Thomson, 16yc!s, 2; A. Mong, 22yds, 3. Also started: Dunford Byds and Harbrow 24yd*. The positions remained unchanged until the lastlap, when Chalmers forge steadily to the front and passed the leading man five yards from the tape, winning by a yard, the others being close up. Time, 54 3-ssec. HALF-MILE HANDICAP. Nine entries. Holmes, 50yds. 1; R. Chalmers, scratch, 2; Lee, syds, '3. Also started: Mawson 15yds, Morris 60yds, Wanstone 60yds, Gifford 60yds, Gillespie 60yds, and Gibb 65yds. Holmes won all the way, and Chalmers and Lee fought it out for second place, being 50 yards behind the winner. Time, 2min Bsec. 220YDS HURDLE HANDICAP, Over six flights 3ft 6in hurdles. Nine entries. Won by about five yards after a good race, in which only four men finished. Time, 30sec. MILE HANDICAP. Five entries. H. Holmes, 30yds, 1; Rawsoji, scratch, 2; Murray, 90yds, 3. Also started: W. M'Queen 70yds, Gibb ll 70yds, and Morris 70yds. Holmes steadily gained on the limit men and attained a strong lead in the last lap, winning by 20 yards, 10 yards separating the second and third competitors. Time, 4mi'n 54sec.
