A NEW TORPEDOER

NEW YORK, March 26,

The American navy is testing Mr C. Barger's sub-surface torpedoer, which is claimed to be immune from small gun fire. It costs £4500, and weighs six tons. Its length is 46ft, and it carries a 1000pound charge of guncotton. Two men are stationed in the conning-tower, which is situated amidships. They can steer close to an opposing battleship, take aim, and then desert the torpedoer by means of lifeboats or lifebelts.
