Woon will induct the tour %} l. he^P°, imnion , which commences at the 1 ?%% # alJ here on * h e 19th February. On Wednesday night the Royal Picture Syndicate completed its second year of» continuous unrolling of film at His Majesty's Theatre. During that time the management has given 750 performances. Judging by the large audiences nightly, the pictures are not losing any of their popularity. The new theatre which is to he run by the Royal Syndicate and West's Proprietary is fast nearing completion, and | should be all ready for the opening in I April. . Mr Geoffrey Nye, who was " lent" to I Hugh J. Ward to pilot his company I through the Dominion, is returning to I Wellington in the interests of West's Pro- I prietary. "Carter the Magician" has been doing j fair business at the Opera House. Our next big attraction will be William- | son's "Ring of Cadonia" Company. Chas. i Berkeley is in town, and from a short I conversation I had with him the other day I I concluded his billet as advance mamager | is a sinecure. "No bills, hoardings, or i pictures are wanted to boom the 'King of Cadonia,'" he told me; "the play just booms itself. Once seen, yon can't keep the people away from it." In Auckland Mr Berkeley said, money had to be refused every night. The dressing and staging, he 6ays, is a perfect eye-opener. Well, we'll see, next week. Mr Geo. Chateau is so pleased with the success of his pupils in their performance of "Dr Bill," which they have played at Blenheim and Greytown. that be is again staging- it. This time Day's Bay is to be invaded, and the performances take place to-morrow and Monday evening. Fullers are a-movcrin,' along in a quite satisfactory manner, and Ben F. smiles the fat smile of onulenee. In the King's Theatre, which is being built here for West's and the Royal Syndicate. an innovation will be introduced -whereby the effect of the pictures will be greatly intensified. A wall or partition will run obliquely from the side walls, and will be painted black, thus throwing the picture into relief in exactly the same manner as a picture frame heightens the effect of an oil painting. By painting these walls black, the light thrown upon the screen cannot illumine anything on, either side, and thus divert attention. It is stated that as a result of the increase in railway fa-res, Williamson's "King of Cadonia" Company will be called upon to pay an extra £95 for' tickets between HastinQ-6 and New Plymouth, Mr Ernest Sohatz. who is now manager of Pollard's Merry Midgets, passed through Wellington to-day, en route to the West. Coast. He telle me that "der kiddies" have played to big business i,n this island*. Mr Sobatz will be back in Wellington on the 12th of next month.
