THE WARATAH

The State Premier (Mr Murray) haa received a cablegram from the A#enti general stating that' the steamer Caldergrave, now at Auckland, might undertake the Waratah search at a probable cost of £2OOO a month. A definite decision is expected to-day.
January 9
Sir W. J. Taverner has cabled that tin steamer Wakefield has been engaged to search for the Waratah.
January 10
The Citizens' Committee has accepted, the offer of the steamer Wakefield to search for the Waratah. The Wakefield l will leave Durban at the end of January, and will exhaustively search the Marion, Crozex, and Kerguelen Islands, and between Kerguelen Island and the Australian coast. For the search in th» islands she will be paid £3OOO, and for a month's cruise on the coast east of guelen Island a further £IBSO. The committee is also in favour of extending the search 'or another month ai a price to be fixed.
An Admiralty officer will accompany the Wakefield, and will act ae the representative of the committee.
It is estimated that the cruise will cost £SOO more than the committee has in hand.
The relatives in England of the Waratah's passengers have guaranteed £200(1 towards the outlav.
