The bank rate of discount is 5 per cent.
Short loans are discounted at 4J per cent/, and three months' bills as follows: — London, 4A per cent.
Consols are quoted at £82 12s 6d. The following aTe the quotations for Colonial Government stocks, compared with those ruling a week previous : —
Wheat: The markets are firm, upon stronger American advices and rumours of frost in. the Argentine, but inactive. Australian, landed, 42s 6d to 43b 6d ; .sailers, October, 416; new crop — December and January shipment 38s, January' and February shipment 37s 9d, February and March shipment 37s 2£d, parcels of December and January shipment 38s. Flour : Steady, but quiet. Australian — In London, 31s ex stove ; Glasgow, no sales of new crop, old crop 235. Oats : Slow. La Plata, January and February shipments, i4s l£d. There is a demand for the best (salted) butters at from 112s to 118s; secondaries, 106s to 110s. The Paparoa's shipment is landing at 118s. Danish, 130s to 1325. The sugar market is firm. The speculative market is lees favourable owing to crop reports from France. German. 12s ; first marks, I3s 9d, The Bradford wool market is dull. Topmakei's advanced id on present and future quotations, but business is limited. The stock of kauri gum is 311 cases. November 13. Copra : Over 1000 tons of south sold early in the week at a decline of ss, but an improved demand has since prevailed. Bags, £21 12s 6d to £21 15s c.i.f. Britain, and £21 17s 6d ci.f. on the Continent. The week's sales amounted to about 2000 tons. November 14. The Board of Agriculture the British wheat crop at 7,695,000 quarters, barley 7,621,000 quarters, and oats 15,397,000 quarters. Hemp. — Firm. Good to fair, 265. Cotton. — Liverpool November ■noid December shipment, 7.49 d. Rabbits. — Gocd demand. Prices unchanged. i Hares.— Dull, despite shorter English supply.
